Who We Are

We are locally owned and operated, serving patients in the Fredericton area for over 26 years. We have worked hard to build an excellent reputation within the community. It pays for you to be a well informed patient – ask your doctor or health professional about the best place to go for orthotics and biomechanical foot problems. For more information, check out Choosing a Footcare Professional.

Our office in Douglas includes both a clinic and fabrication facility. Orthotics are fabricated, and when necessary, modified onsite. In addition, we fabricate custom orthotics onsite for other Pedorthists, Podiatrists, Chiropodists, and Occupational therapists. If you want more background check out our Mission and Values.

Our Process

At ABLE Orthotics, we assess the function of the foot and lower limb through static and dynamic assessment. From our assessment findings, we are able to develop a treatment plan specific to your needs that will help alleviate pain or problems caused by your specific foot and lower limb function. When appropriate, we design and manufacture custom made prescription foot orthotics, educate on proper footwear choice and fit, and fit therapeutic footwear. All of our referred patients are assessed by a Certified Pedorthist (Canada).

We follow a 5 step process to maximize results:

5-step-process diagram

1. Assess

  • Collection of patient history
  • Gait analysis
  • Biomechanical assessment of lower limb, foot and footwear

2. Solution Design. The right solution for the patient may include one or more of the following treatment options:

  • Shoes: specialty and/or customized footwear
  • Exercises
  • Off the shelf orthotics
  • Custom manufactured orthotics
  • Education on foot care, proper footwear fit or selection
  • Recommendations for other appropriate treatments

If the right solution includes a custom orthotic, a 3-dimensional cast is taken of both feet and the orthotic is designed by the Pedorthist.

3. Fit of the orthotic and/or shoes:

  • Test drive the new solution
  • Fine tune with any required adjustments

4. Educating

  • Choosing the right footwear and getting a proper fit
  • Foot care
  • Appropriate exercises

5. Follow up:

  • With the referring physician
  • With the patient
